Greg McElroy explained why Michigan is the top remaining undefeated team in college football.
In an appearance on ESPN’s College Football Live, McElroy ranked the remaining undefeated teams. He gave Michigan the No. 1 spot on his list of the 6 teams. On the show, ESPN college football writer Bill Connelly made his own ranking of the undefeated teams. There was a difference in the 2 lists.
Here is McElroy’s list of undefeated teams:
- Michigan
- Georgia
- Tennessee
- Ohio State
- TCU
- Clemson
Michigan and Ohio State were 3 spots away from one another on McElroy’s list. He explained his criteria for his rankings:
“I personally have a different criteria for how I rank my teams. I base it more on what you’ve done to this point, and the big one that people will mostly disagree with as far as my rankings go is I have Ohio State at No. 4,” McElroy said. “I don’t know this just yet, but last year they were beat badly by a team that can control the line of scrimmage, and I haven’t seen them address that quite yet because no one they’ve played has been able to potentially expose them in that regard.”
McElroy was critical of Ohio State’s wins and lack of addressing needs. He also noted that Michigan had the best win of the 2 teams in 2022:
“Michigan has the most impressive win — to me — as far as being able to dominate Penn State,” McElroy said.
These 6 teams will be competing for the 4 spots in the College Football Playoff. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
