The Rutgers Scarlet Knights returned to New Jersey winners, having defeated Boston College 22-21 on Saturday.

With that win, head coach Greg Schiano keeps his streak of winning season openers alive.

The coach previously served as head coach at Rutgers from 2001-2011, before making stops in the NFL and at Ohio State. Schiano rejoined Rutgers as the head coach in 2020, signing an 8-year, $32 million contract.

The move has paid off, and Schiano has an overall 10-4 record in openers for the school across both stops in Piscataway. He’s 3-0 since returning, with wins against Michigan State (2020), Temple (2021) and now, Boston College.

The Rutgers win was a decisive one, with the Knights holding Boston College to a minimal 29 rushing yards in the game. It came down to the final minutes before Rutgers finally scored the clutch, game-winning score in the fourth.

Can the team start another streak to go down in the history books? The Scarlet Knights face Wagner on Sept. 10.
