One Big Ten team — Ohio State — received a first place vote. It came from Ben Portnoy, who covers South Carolina.
The Buckeyes ended up No. 4 in the final version of the preseason poll — not bad considering the amount of talent they’ll be tasked with replacing this season.
Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin and Penn State joined Ohio State as Big Ten teams to crack the initial top 25. The Big Ten finished tied with the SEC and Pac-12 for the most teams to be included in this poll.
Michigan (12) and Northwestern (8) also received votes. The Wolverines face No. 20 Washington in Week 2, so a fast start could see them landing in the top-25 by mid-September.
The Big Ten’s first game of the season is on Aug. 28 as Illinois hosts Nebraska.
