Here’s where Ohio State’s 2023 recruiting class sits after Carnell Tate’s decision

Ohio State jumped 6 spots from 8th to the 2nd ranked overall recruiting class in the country for 2023 with the commitment of 5-star receiver Carnell Tate.

Tate chose the Buckeyes over Tennessee, Notre Dame and LSU Monday afternoon after weeks of mystery. National analysts flipped their crystal balls for the IMG Academy receiver from Tennessee to Ohio State just days before his commitment. Ohio State’s 2023 class now trails only Notre Dame.

Tate said wide receivers coach Brian Hartline had a lot to do with his choice to play for the Buckeyes in the end.

“I love Coach Hartline and what he has done for the wideout position,” Tate said via Rivals and his personal Twitter account. “You could see – we all saw it from his previous year when he had Chris (Olave) and Garrett (Wilson) and they went on to be first-round picks. You also have Ryan Day and the offense, who’s calling the plays. His offense is designed for receivers to eat.”

Ohio State was rolling even before Tate’s commitment. Tate represents the 11th commit of a class containing 9 4-star recruits, including Luke Montgomery and Dijon Johnson.

Montgomery is the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Ohio and a capable offensive tackle recruit for offensive line coach Justin Frye.

Tate is also the 2nd top-300 receiver to join the ranks alongside Zephyrhills, Florida native Bryson Rodgers.

And they may not be the last to join Hartline and co. Five-star receiver Brandon Inniss also has the Buckeyes high on his list along with USC.
