Hot-shooting night by Joey Hauser powers Michigan State over WMU

Western Michigan hung with Michigan State for a good portion of Sunday’s non-conference matchup.

But the Broncos didn’t have quite enough as the No. 8 Spartans eventually pulled ahead and cruised to a 79-61 victory to stay unbeaten at 5-0.

The name of the game for Michigan State in this win was shooting. It started with Joey Hauser. The junior from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, had a career high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. He was lethal from long distance as he went 6-of-10 from 3-point range.

Hauser has been solid all season long as he’s scored at least 10 points in all five of his performances this season. This is also the third game where he’s had a double-double in points and rebounds.

The other big scorer was Aaron Henry, who did not start Sunday’s game for disciplinary reasons after arriving late for a team meeting this week. He ended up with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in the win. After putting in just six points in the opener, Henry has heated up as he’s scored at least 12 points in each of his team’s last four games.

This coming week is a big one for all Big Ten teams, including Tom Izzo’s squad. Each team will be competing in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. The Spartans head on the road to take on No. 15 Virginia.
