Fans, media react to Hunter Dickinson’s surprising portal decision

Hunter Dickinson has been Michigan’s scoring and rebounding leader for the past 3 seasons under Juwan Howard. Unfortunately, Dickinson has opted for the transfer portal after the Wolverines missed the NCAA Tournament this past season.
According to Jeff Goodman with Stadium, Dickinson has said he is wide open in regard to the future in the portal. Any team interested in a game-changing big man is likely to be checking in on Dickinson, and he will be one of the best players available in the portal this offseason.
Hunter Dickinson told me he is wide open right now. https://t.co/ZY3aEVmd2d

In 94 games across 3 seasons, Dickinson has career averages of 18.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.6 blocks and shoots 57% from the field (36% from 3-point range). As expected, that type of contributor with NCAA Tournament experience generated a swift reaction across social media.
uh… maybe head on down to Iowa City next year where he’d be surrounded by shooters, a talented senior PG, and an up-and-coming soph PG https://t.co/mVRlhH073Y

Its funny how some of the people saying how bad Hunter Dickinson was just a few weeks ago are now suddenly hoping he transfers to their school😂

Confirming @jeffborzello‘s initial report — Michigan star big man Hunter Dickinson is in the transfer portal.
He averaged 18.5 points and 9.0 boards as a junior & ranks 12th all-time at U-M in points (1,617) & 9th in rebounds (787).
A significant blow to Juwan Howard’s squad.

Hunter Dickinson immediately becomes the best transfer on the market and … I think? … the most jarring move of the portal era.

Hunter Dickinson has to end up at Iowa, doesn’t he? He’d be the third McCaffery brother.

What’s next for Michigan?
Along with Dickinson hitting the portal, Michigan already knows the program will be losing Jett Howard going into next season. The star freshman averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2 assists and shot 41% from the field and 37% from 3-point range in his lone season with the Wolverines.
There’s no denying Juwan Howard has produced some solid results with the program but that doesn’t change the impact of losing some key producers, including the apparently out of nowhere move by Dickinson. Replacing some players like that after an 18-16 overall season in 2022-23 leaves the Wolverines on uncertain footing moving forward.
