‘I think I’m done’: Urban Meyer addresses USC speculation

It’s been five months since Urban Meyer decided to step away from coaching the Ohio State football team and announced that he believes he’s done being a head coach. He has a new role within the Buckeyes’ athletic department and will be an analyst for FOX’s college football pregame show for the 2019 season.
But none of that has stopped the speculation about Meyer’s future as a football coach. There’s still plenty who believe the esteemed college football leader will step on the sidelines again.
Recently, Meyer’s name has been tied to USC, primarily because of Reggie Bush’s comments. Because Meyer and Bush will share time on the analyst panel for the FOX college football pregame show this fall, the former Trojans running back said he’ll “definitely be recruiting” Meyer to coach at USC, should things go awry again under Clay Helton.
Meyer maintains that he thinks he has coached his last game.
“I learned my lesson long ago,” Meyer told Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch. “All I’m going to say is I believe I’m done (coaching). I think I’m done.”
Meyer decided to step away from the Ohio State job due to health concerns. The arachnoid cyst on his brain caused severe headaches throughout the 2018 season, even forcing him to his knees during one game.
Still, there’s a comparison to Meyer’s departure from Florida after the 2010 season to this year’s retirement at Ohio State. Meyer also cited health concerns when he left Gainesville and took a job as an analyst at ESPN for one year. In 2012, he was back on the sideline in Columbus.
Only Meyer knows if he’s truly interested in making a return to coaching. For now, though, he’s maintaining that he thinks he’s done.
