Iowa coach Fran McCaffery snaps at reporter in postgame press conference: ‘That’s a ridiculous question’
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery was clearly frustrated after the Hawkeyes’ 67-65 loss to Indiana on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the first half, but Indiana closed the gap with a 9-0 run to end the stanza and take the lead. The two teams played even in the second half, giving the Hoosiers a two-point win.
After the game, McCaffery was asked about having Luka Garza on the bench during Indiana’s big run to close the half. Garza had two fouls at the time.
“You guys are unbelievable,” McCaffery said, referring to the media. “You want me to play the bench. I play the bench because guys are in foul trouble, then you want me to take them out. How are they going to get better? How are they going to improve?
“That’s a ridiculous question, Mark. You should know better.”

This isn’t the first time this season that McCaffery has taken his frustrations out on a media member. He was also clearly frustrated after Iowa’s loss to Illinois late last month.
Iowa has now dropped four of its last five games, including two to the Hoosiers. Indiana won this game thanks to a last-second shot by Armaan Franklin.
Iowa hosts Rutgers on Wednesday.
