Iowa sets record for women’s college basketball during ‘Crossover at Kinnick’

Iowa put on a great display Sunday afternoon, rolling past DePaul in an exhibition game played in Kinnick Stadium. Dubbed the “Crossover at Kinnick,” the game was a great opportunity to showcase Caitlin Clark, the Hawkeyes and the sport of women’s college basketball.

In the end, Iowa set the record for attendance at a women’s college basketball game. The final number came in at 55,646 fans to shatter the previous record.

Head coach Lisa Bluder addressed the fans to express her gratitude.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to everybody that made this day so special for the University of Iowa, the state of Iowa, and our women’s basketball program. Nowhere in the country could this happen except for at the University of Iowa,” said Bluder. “All of you were a part of history today, thank you!”

The game was a spectacle to behold and included the first-ever Kinnick Stadium triple-double from Caitlin Clark. The Hawkeyes also took part in the Iowa Wave, a tradition normally received for football teams and Saturdays in the fall.

The B1G has been about shattering records and bringing increased exposure to women’s sports this summer and fall. Nebraska set the world record for attendance at any women’s sporting event during the historic “Volleyball Day” inside Memorial Stadium. Now, Iowa lays claim to the top attendance at a women’s college basketball game.
