Week 1 was a heartbreaking way to start the season for Purdue.
The Boilermakers led 31-14 against Nevada midway through the third quarter, but ended up losing the game thanks to a 56-yard field goal.

Going forward, Purdue must be on the attack and must be smarter according to head coach Jeff Brohm:
“We have to be on the attack,” said Brohm after Thursday’s practice. “That means you have to be smart, too. You can’t be overly aggressive, but you have to err on being slightly aggressive. At the same time, we have to be efficient in what we are doing. We have to be able to be balanced on offense. It can’t be all pass, we can’t rely on the pass the entire game.
“On defense, we have to be on the attack. Whether that’s playing zone, man or blitzing, we have to be able to affect the quarterback and make sure he understands we have to make him feel uncomfortable in the pocket.”
What Brohm is saying makes sense. Just because his team has a lead doesn’t mean that it can become complacent. Purdue doesn’t have a world-class team. It isn’t in the NFL playing against a collegiate opponent.
Even Clemson and Alabama can’t take the foot off the gas, otherwise the opposition may creep back into the game and pull of a comeback — exactly like Nevada did in Week 1.
For Week 2, Purdue is hosting Vanderbilt on Saturday. The game will be televised on BTN.
We’ll see then what Purdue’s mindset will be.
