Purdue is currently 1-2 overall and had a bye in Week 4. The non-conference slate is over, and it’s likely that the Boilermakers wanted to feel better about themselves than the do now with Big Ten play coming right around the corner.

For Week 5, Purdue hosts Minnesota, a team that is 3-0 and has won three tight games. Before the Boilermakers take on the Golden Gophers, though, coach Jeff Brohm spoke with the media on Monday. He talked about how the team’s done so far and how it is coming off a 34-13 loss to TCU:

Being cute is great and all when calling plays, getting creative, getting your play-makers in space. All of that is great. But if you don’t have time to throw the ball and let plays develop, good luck. Brohm also talked about the Big Ten and how the teams have been so far:

“Right now, we don’t stack up where we need to be,” he said. “There’s a lot of good teams in our conference that are playing well. There’s a lot of parity.”

Brohm’s correct. Purdue, right now, needs to step it up if it wants to compete in the Big West division, let alone the entire B1G. Getting a win over Minnesota to start the conference slate at 1-0 would certainly be a step in the right direction.
