Corey Dennis was the quality control coach on offense at Ohio State a season ago. But news broke that since Mike Yurcich left his post as the quarterbacks coach, the Buckeyes decided to elevate Dennis to fill that hole.

Prior to Dennis being the quality control coach, he was a graduate assistant in 2016 and 2017 and was an intern in 2015. A lot has changed since Dennis was an intern and graduate assistant.

Guys like Joe Burrow, who started at Ohio State, moved on to LSU. Then he became the Heisman Trophy winner. During his time as a Buckeye, Joe Burrow has said that he grew a lot in Columbus. He learned while being a backup.

He took that knowledge with him to LSU, and then, he blossomed. But when news broke that Dennis would be the Buckeyes’ newest quarterbacks coach, Burrow (who was at Ohio State from 2015-17) spoke about Dennis very kindly:

“I think Corey is going to be a really good coach for a long time,” Burrow said in a teleconference previewing next week’s College Football Playoff national championship game, in which LSU will face Clemson.

“I texted him as soon as I saw the news and was fired up for him. He’s worked for that for a long time, and there’s nobody more deserving. He’s going to be a really good coach. I’m excited for him.”

More from Burrow, who talked about the times when Dennis learned from Ohio State’s current head coach Ryan Day:

“I think the best thing for Corey was learning under coach (Ryan) Day for a couple of years,” Burrow said. “I think that really helped him, and I think he’s going to be one of the best recruiters in the country, as well. He works his tail off, and he has for a long time.

“I’m excited to get on the phone with him next week and talk a little ball and see his mindset, but he’s a really good coach, really good person, and he’s going to do a really good job.”

Burrow talked about being upset about the Buckeyes’ 2019 season coming to an end when it lost to Clemson as well during his CFP teleconference.
