Joel Klatt is loving the battle for the Heisman Trophy during the 2022 season. According to Klatt, there is a group of players tightly grouped coming out of Week 11.

After all the action, Klatt particularly highlighted North Carolina QB Drake Maye as “an absolute stud” and “legit Heisman contender.” Klatt went on to include 5 players that are in contention for the Heisman but noted this group is in no particular order.

  • Ohio State QB CJ Stroud
  • Michigan RB Blake Corum
  • UNC QB Drake Maye
  • Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker
  • USC QB Caleb Williams.

It is interesting to note that most of Klatt’s group mirrors Paul Finebaum’s “Rank & File” candidates for the Heisman. However, Finebaum included Georgia QB Stetson Bennett in place of Caleb Williams.

It will be an interesting and dramatic race for the Heisman down the stretch. Last season, Bryce Young did not cement his status as the Heisman winner until a win over Auburn and SEC Championship Game performance.

Stroud had a great chance at the award last season before the loss to Michigan. This time around, Corum and Stroud will both have a shot to make a big statement in the final game of the regular season.
