Nebraska has had a rough week after losing 30-22 to Illinois in Week 0.

It’s not slowing down.

Kirk Herbstreit went on his ESPN College Football Podcast and called out an excuse he’s heard about Nebraska’s inability to recruit.

“People keep saying, ‘Players today in 2021 don’t want to go to Lincoln, Nebraska.’ But do players want to go to (Iowa City)?” Herbstreit said on Monday. “Iowa, they’ll win eight, 10 or 11 and then back to eight … Don’t give me Lincoln, Nebraska. There are other coaches that are winning, there are other programs that don’t have the pedigree, don’t have the facilities, don’t have the history that Nebraska has.

“I’m literally dumbfounded, because I keep thinking, like their fans — when Scott Frost got hired out of UCF, I was thinking ‘Oh ho ho, here we go.’ And nothing yet … I have no answers for you. Their facilities are second to none. Their tradition is second to none. If Iowa can do it, I know Nebraska can.”

The press hasn’t been great for Nebraska since its Week 0 loss to Illinois. In his Monday press conference, Frost admitted that “about half  of [Nebraska’s] game plan was out the window when [Illinois] lined up how they did,” which led to a myriad of tweets criticizing the coach.

Nebraska will try to get in the win column this weekend against Fordham. We’ll see how the Huskers respond after a tough first week of the season.
