Michigan and Notre Dame will renew their rivalry Saturday for the final time in perhaps almost a decade in a half. While that’s one storyline heading into this historic matchup, the other is Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh under tremendous pressure after a slow 5-2 start.
Lots of college football analysts are calling for Michigan to fire Harbaugh, and then this week, a report surfaced that Harbaugh is looking at a potential return to the NFL.
With a tough remaining schedule for Michigan as well, there probably isn’t a college coach more in need of something good happening on Saturday.
“Even though it’s non-conference, Jim Harbaugh needs a win,” ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said on College Gameday. “He needs a win. With Michigan State still out there, Ohio State’s still out there. Harbaugh needs to get a big win today.”
In Notre Dame’s last visit to the Big House in 2014, Michigan won, 41-30, but the Fighting Irish have a two-game winning streak in the series with the last two matchups coming in South Bend.
Michigan leads the all-time series against Notre Dame, 24-17-1.
