Mark Dantonio is already a Michigan State legend, but he is now just one win away from cementing his name alone atop the school’s all-time wins list.
On Saturday, the Spartans looked the best they have in two games to begin 2019. The offense put up 51 points in the rout while Michigan State’s defense continues to impress. Not only was the blowout win a good sign, but it was also significant.
With the victory, Dantonio tied Duffy Daugherty’s school record with his 109th all-time win. One more and the school record will belong to Dantonio alone, and he took time to discuss reaching the record on his Sunday evening teleconference.

According to Dantonio, he is treating the wins mark as sort of a long-term accomplishment to be revisited. In the here-and-now, Dantonio was much more concerned with the fact that the team got the win and was clicking on both sides of the ball.
Chris Solari with The Detroit Free Press shared Dantonio’s comments:
Dantonio on tying Duffy and the WMU win: "For me personally, it's long-term maybe. that's something you can point to. But it's much more rewarding and you get the win and everything is going correctly and you have positive things going on both sides of the ball."

Regardless of whether or not he is focusing on it, Dantonio and the Spartans will get a chance to set the record Saturday against Arizona State. Kickoff is set for 4 pm EST on FOX.
