Maryland becomes latest team to pass on bowl season

Maryland told the Big Ten that it would not accept any invitations to play in a bowl, according to a spokesman on Sunday. With a 2-3 record, whether the Terrapins would have received any invitations was uncertain.
After the Terps canceled what would have been their final game of the regular season this past Saturday due to COVID-19 issues within the program, the team paused all practices Thursday, so any preparations for a bowl game would have been difficult.
Michigan State, also with a disappointing two-win regular season, announced on Sunday that they would forgo any opportunity to play in a bowl game.
The Terrapins wins, over Minnesota and Penn State, represent the only success in what was hoped to be a nine-game schedule across nine weeks, but Maryland ultimately had to cancel four games due to issues with the virus.
Only two Big Ten teams, Penn State and Rutgers, were able to play all nine regular-season games as planned.
Maryland has informed the Big Ten Conference that it would not accept a bowl invitation, per team spokesman. Team is currently paused because of coronavirus cases in the program.
