Michigan State suffered the loss of starting offensive lineman Kevin Wigenton II to the transfer portal on Monday.

Wigenton announced he intention to transfer with the portal opening on Dec. 4. Wigenton is the 3rd player to transfer out of the program since the news of Jonathan Smith’s hiring broke.

Smith was announced as the new head coach on Saturday and led Oregon State to an 8-4 record this year.

Wigenton played in 12 games this season with 6 starts. He has 2 years of eligibility left. Here was his message about the decision:

“Thank you for all the support,” said Wigenton. “After long conversations with my family I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility.”

Starting quarterback Katin Houser is reportedly planning on transferring. Another report surfaced on Monday stating that Sam Leavitt is also transferring.

The Spartans missed the postseason for the 2nd year in a row in 2023. Michigan State ended the year with a 42-0 loss to Penn State.
