Michigan State is gearing up for its annual rivalry showdown vs. Michigan and Jonathan Smith’s first-ever turn against the Wolverines.

Saturday night’s game in primetime will be an interesting matchup of teams seemingly headed in opposite directions. Michigan most recently loss to Illinois but struggled with its 3rd starting quarterback and just 7 points scored.

Meanwhile, Smith’s Spartans are coming off their best performance of the season in a 32-20 win over Iowa. A particularly positive is sign is Michigan State’s success rushing the ball against the Hawkeyes, especially with how the ground game traditionally decides the MSU-UM outcome.

On Wednesday, the Spartans unveiled the uniform combination they will be rolling with, and it’s a classic look. Michigan State is rocking with a green helmet and traditional Spartan logo on the lid with a white uniform and white pants.

It’s a traditional road look for MSU that has graced the rivalry plenty of times before, including the glorious (and infamous) “trouble with the snap” game. Check it out:

As for the overall series, it remains a tighter series in recent history with the Wolverines winning 5 of the last 8 overall. Michigan State last won in 2021, the 2nd of back-to-back wins in the series, but the Spartans have since been outscored 78-7 in back-to-back losses.

For this year’s game, Michigan is listed at -4 per bet365, so this game is one liable to come down to the wire. We’ll see if the Spartans can pull off the big play on the road for the upset win.
