Scott Frost entered the 2022 season in his fifth year at Nebraska as Albert was hopeful that the process was going to lead a potential postseason bowl appearance. The final straw for Frost was the embarrassing 45-42 home loss to the Georgia Southern Eagles in Week 3. Frost finished his coaching career at Nebraska with an overall record of 16-31 and a 10-26 record in B1G play.
Assistant head coach/passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph has been filling as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Nebraska is 2-5 under coach Joseph.
There have been several coaches that are serious candidates to take over as the next head coach, including former Baylor and Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule. Another head coach that has reportedly shown interest is Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.
One wildcard that has shown heavy interest as the next head coach is former Cornhusker Ndamukong Suh.
