Alan Haller was named Michigan State’s athletic director Wednesday morning.

Now, he’s sharing his message for fans: “This will be a TEAM effort.”

“Spartan Athletics is on the brink of greatness, and when we succeed as a department it will benefit our entire community, both at Michigan State University and beyond,” Haller wrote. “But we can’t be successful unless we all pull in the same direction … the time is right to accomplish something special, TOGETHER.”

Haller played football at Michigan State from 1988-91 and played three seasons in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers. He spent the last 35 years at Michigan State and has been the university’s deputy athletic director since 2019.

Michigan State’s outgoing athletic director, Bill Beekman, is becoming the university’s Vice President for Strategic Initiatives. Haller beat out Auburn athletic director Allen Greene for the position and signed a five-year contract worth $800k per year.
