The Pac-12 acknowledged the error at the end of Michigan State’s game against Arizona State, but there’s no comfort in that for Mark Dantonio.

On Monday, the Pac-12 released a statement saying that the officials in Saturday’s Arizona State-Michigan State game missed a call at the end of the game when a Sun Devils defender leaped over the Spartans’ offensive line on a field goal attempt in the final seconds. No penalty was called an Matt Coghlin missed the kick, leading to a 10-7 ASU win on the road.

During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Dantonio was asked whether or not the Pac-12’s acknowledgement of the error brought him any comfort. Spoiler alert, it did not.

“Well the Pac-12 issues a statement if they said the game gets forfeited, then maybe I’d feel better. Other than that, I really don’t care,” Dantonio said. “It’s sorta after the fact. There’s nothing I can do about that. I can’t sit up here and go on and on about it, so I’m not going to. Everyone’s got a job to do so I’m going to do my job to the best of my ability and they need to do their job to the best of their ability. They issued an apology but that’s sorta in the wind.”

Dantonio was critical of the missed call at the end of Saturday’s game in the postgame press conference, saying the Pac-12 needed to take a “good, hard look at the officiating.”

The Pac-12 did that, and took responsibility for the missed call. But it brings little solace to Dantonio and the Spartans, who are now 2-1 on the season.
