Each year, certain players step up at Ohio State.
The talent is always there, but sometimes talent doesn’t equate to leadership. If a team wants to win consistently and have a clear message throughout the squad, it takes leaders to take the team by the horns.

On Monday, ahead of the 2019 regular season starting, Ryan Day — during a press conference — released the news that seven captains would be leading the team into its season-opener:
Ohio State has seven captains for the 2019 season: Jordan Fuller, Jonathon Cooper, J.K. Dobbins, Tuf Borland, K.J. Hill, C.J. Saunders, Chase Young
— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) August 19, 2019
Jordan Fuller, Jonathon Cooper, Tuf Borland and Chase Young come from the defensive side of the ball, while J.K. Dobbins, K.J. Hill and C.J. Saunders are offensive players. Dobbins is a RB, while Hill and Saunders are pass-catchers.
One may notice that there is no quarterback that is a captain on this team. It was also announced during the Ryan Day presser that Justin Fields, the former 5-star prospect who committed to Georgia and transferred to Ohio State over the offseason, was named the starting QB.
Ohio State’s 2019 season begins on Aug. 31 at home against Florida Atlantic.
