With USC looking to hire a head coach in the coming months, expect there to be plenty of speculation about how could be a good fit for that job.

One of the early names to surface has been NFL legend Deion Sanders, who is currently coaching at FCS Jackson State. Sanders is in his second season of coaching and has an overall record of 6-4.

USC icon Reggie Bush was the first person to prominently advocate for Sanders last week. On Friday, college football analyst Paul Finebaum also seemed supportive of Prime Time getting the Trojans’ head coaching job.

ESPN’s Heather Dinich initially reacted with skepticism, suggesting that USC should target a coach with more program-building experience. Finebaum said Sanders could hire an experienced staff to help make the process a smooth one.

“What Deion Sanders can do is hire a staff,” Finebaum said. “He can go out and get a great defensive and offensive coordinator. He’s the face of the program. And is there a city in America that needs a face and glitz more than Los Angeles? I think he would be unbelievable. Go ahead and hire him today.”

Desmond Howard sided with Finebaum in the debate.

“I’ve seen less qualified coaches get bigger coaching jobs so I would say yeah,” Howard said. “He brings a name, he brings a brand, he’s able to recruit and he would bring a lot of attention there.”
