New Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry is putting together the pieces for the 2021 roster, and he added another key player Sunday afternoon.

According to Jeff Borzello with ESPN, Siena point guard Jalen Pickett committed to the Nittany Lions over Oregon State while also considering Michigan, Gonzaga, and Baylor during his transfer process. Pickett was a three-year starter at Siena but was limited to 14 games this past season due to a hamstring injury.

“I really just trust coach [Micah] Shrewsberry,” Pickett told ESPN. “I love the vision, the direction he’s taking, how he wants to play. Him and coach [Adam] Fisher were really on me this whole recruiting process.”

Pickett has since confirmed his commitment on Twitter:

Pickett captured the MAAC Player of the Year Award in 2020 after averaging 15.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.0 assists. He has career averages of 15 points per game to go with 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists while shooting 44% from the floor and 36% from deep. Listed at 6-foot-4, Picket is a dynamic contributor at point guard and should be a key player for the Nittany Lions.

Picket is the second impact transfer to commit to Shrewsberry and Penn State this week. Sharpshooter Jaheam Cornwall out of Gardner-Webb committed as a graduate transfer on Friday. Cornwall is a career 42% three-point shooter over four seasons in the Big South.

Penn State lost some key pieces from this past season’s team, and it is good to see Shrewsberry landing some nice players via the portal. Hopefully, they are able to team up for some positive results.
