Former Rutgers head coach and Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash is reportedly heading to the NFL.

That’s according to a report from Yahoo!’s Pete Thamel.

Ash has spent the last two seasons at Texas. He was an analyst for part of the 2019 season and the Longhorns’ defensive coordinator/safeties coach in 2020.

Prior to that, Ash was the head coach at Rutgers for nearly four seasons. He was fired mid-way through the 2019 campaign after posting a 8-33 overall record.

As Thamel noted, Ash was also Ohio State’s defensive coordinator in 2014 when the Buckeyes won their most recent National Championship.

He’s also spent time at Drake, Iowa State, San Diego State, Wisconsin and Arkansas over the last 20+ years.

As for Meyer, his staff seems to be coming together. So far, he hasn’t poached any active assistants from Ryan Day’s staff at Ohio State. The partial exception to that is Ryan Stamper, who is leaving his assistant AD role at Ohio State to take a job in Jacksonville’s front office.

Meyer said at his introductory press conference that he assured OSU Gene Smith that he wouldn’t leave the Buckeyes in a bad spot.
