The Indianapolis Colts have found a new quarterback, and it’s a former Michigan State star.
On Monday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Colts have signed New England Patriots’ backup quarterback Brian Hoyer to a three-year deal worth $12 million. According to the report, Hoyer is guaranteed $9 million with the contract.
Indianapolis is making the deal after franchise quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck announced his retirement on Aug. 24. Jacoby Brissett had been the backup to Luck.

Hoyer has bounced around the NFL since turning pro in 2009. The Colts will be his eighth team in 11 years.
In his career, Hoyer has appeared in 65 games and has thrown for 9,902 yards and 48 touchdowns. His best season came when he was with the Cleveland Browns in 2014, totaling 3,326 yards and 12 touchdowns. The following year, with the Houston Texans, Hoyer had 2,606 passing yards and 19 touchdowns.

A Lakewood, Ohio native, Hoyer played at Michigan State from 2005-08. He racked up 6,159 passing yards and 35 touchdowns in four seasons with the Spartans.
