Maryland guard Aquan Smart is leaving the program.

Smart has not officially announced the news, but it was confirmed by the Washington Post’s Emily Giambalvo.

Smart was a 3-star recruit in Maryland’s 2020 recruiting class. He played sparingly as a freshman for coach Mark Turgeon, scoring 1.4 points per game.

Smart is a Skokie,Illinois, native. Coming out of high school, he had offers from Chicago State, TCU, New Mexico and others.

It’s been a busy offseason for the Terps. Maryland officially announced a contract extension for Turgeon on Thursday morning.

The school has also had multiple other players enter the transfer portal, including Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Darryl Morsell.

Maryland has also added to its roster via the portal this offseason. Rhode Island transfer guard Fatts Russell chose the Terps over several other Power 5 offers earlier this week.

Expect Turgeon and Maryland to remain active in the transfer portal as the offseason progresses.
