Purdue’s already-thin running back room has taken a major hit.
According to GoldandBlack.com, senior running back Tario Fuller suffered a “significant” injury to Purdue’s scrimmage on Saturday morning. He could miss a good portion of the season, according to head coach Jeff Brohm.
Fuller is undergoing further examination to understand the extent of his injury. However, the first reaction didn’t seem very optimistic out of West Lafayette.
Over the last two seasons, Fuller has battled injuries that have prevented him from being a prominent member of the offense. He’s shown flashes of talent throughout his career, but the nagging injuries have sidetracked his production.
Fuller was in the hunt for the starting job at the running back position. Zander Horvath may no be the leader in the clubhouse to be the No. 1 guy out of the backfield.

In three seasons at Purdue, Fuller has rushed for 325 yards and two touchdowns. Most of that production actually came in one game in 2017, when he torched Ohio’s defense for 142 yards and a score on 16 carries in a 44-21 victory.
Purdue opens the 2019 season against Nevada on Friday, Aug. 30.
