Making the state of New Jersey a priority on the recruiting front was a goal for head coach Greg Schiano. So far, he’s meeting that goal.

On Friday, Rutgers added another in-state to the 2021 recruiting class, this time from a native of Morris Plains. Athlete Jordan Thompson committed to the Scarlet Knight, according to Rivals.com’s TheKnightReport.com. He becomes the third New Jersey recruit to pledge to Rutgers in the last two days.

Thompson does not have any rankings in 247Sports’ Composite system, but the website does list him as a three-star talent.

Per 247Sports, Thompson had received offers from three other programs, along with Rutgers. Buffalo, Kent State and UMass also showed interest in the three-star athlete, but he decided to commit to the Scarlet Knights.

Earlier this week, Rutgers received commitments from two other New Jersey natives, Shaquan Loyal and Al-Shadee Salaam. Both are three-star players, as well.

With those three commitments this week, Rutgers is up to six verbal pledges in the 2021 class. Five of those players come from the state of New Jersey.

The Scarlet Knights rank 19th nationally and sixth in the B1G for this cycle currently.
