In March, The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy – then with Stadium – generated much controversy and discussion by reporting Nebraska was “trying to get out of” their September 18 road date with Oklahoma.
“The Cornhuskers have contacted other schools to play in Lincoln on that date, sources said,” relayed McMurphy.
“The game was scheduled to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1971 “Game of the Century” between No. 1 Nebraska & No. 2 Oklahoma.”
Holding an impromptu press conference with new Director of Athletics Trev Alberts Wednesday to discuss the ongoing NCAA investigation into “improper use of analysts and consultants during practices and games,” head coach Scott Frost was asked about the reported rescheduling and denied he played any part in it.
Regarding Oklahoma game, Frost says he never made one call about the possibility of pulling out. Said he doesn’t deal with scheduling matters.

September’s matchup represents the first meeting between the two storied programs since December 4, 2010, when Oklahoma topped Nebraska, 23-20, in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Of course, the Cornhuskers departed the conference following that season, beginning play in the B1G in 2011.
All told, these two have squared off 86 times, dating to 1912, with the Sooners holding a 45-38-3 edge in the series.
This fall’s game, which will kick at 12 p.m. ET on FOX, is the first clash in Norman since 2008, when the then-Bob Stoops-led team thrashed Nebraska, 62-28.
