SEC program slapped with probation for recruiting violations

Florida is in trouble, joining Tennessee as another offseason in the SEC sees more drama away from the field.
According to a release from the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon, Florida had two recruiting violations as well as the NCAA stating that the Gators and head coach Dan Mullen “did not promote an atmosphere of compliance.” In particular, the findings pointed at head coach Dan Mullen for being at fault for the lack of compliance.
At issue, the NCAA said, was impermissible contact between the program and 127 recruits who were on campus for a tour (a Level III violation) as well as an in-person meeting with a recruit prior to his junior season (a Level II violation).
The penalties weigh-in to be rather light, including one year of probation for the program, a reduction in the number of football evaluations as well as evaluation days, a fine of $5,000 and a reduction in the number of official visits and unofficial visits for recruits.
Florida finished the 2020 season as SEC East champions and posted a record of 8-3.
