The Golden Gophers will be without one of their defensive leaders for the Outback Bowl.
On Sunday, senior linebacker Kamal Martin shared on Instagram that he is sitting out the bowl game to begin preparing for the NFL Draft. He said it was “an honor” to play for head coach P.J. Fleck and described his experiences with the Gophers as a blessing.
Martin finishes his Minnesota career with 177 total tackles, 13 for loss, 3.5 sacks, and four interceptions. He is the second-leading tackler for the Gophers this season with 66 total tackles and is second on the team with two interceptions. Martin has also forced two fumbles this year.

On the other side of the ball, one of Auburn’s star defenders and projected first-round pick Derrick Brown indicated this week he will play in the game. Each decision is unique and totally up to the players, but hopefully, Martin’s absence will not hinder the Gophers in the Outback Bowl.
