It remains unclear if Trace McSorley did indeed break his foot in the Citrus Bowl. What is clear? There was no way he was leaving the game.
The initial report came out in the second half that McSorley had suffered a broken foot against Kentucky. Backup Sean Clifford did play a few drives in the game, but McSorley eventually returned to action and finished the game.
Asked about the injury afterward, McSorley said he really doesn’t know if his foot is broken or not. However, once doctors told him he could play if he could manage the pain, he was determined to play things out on the field:
“For me, my personality, I wasn’t going to go out,” said McSorley. “They would’ve had to take my pads off. I was gonna be playing…I’ve been through too much, this team’s been through too much.”
“Unclear right now,” McSorley said when asked if he has a broken foot. What would it haven taken for him to not play? “They would’ve had to take my pads off.” pic.twitter.com/PxYChy4qyY

The Nittany Lions would fall just short, losing 27-24 to end their season. Still, McSorley was fantastic, scoring three touchdowns and leading Penn State in passing and rushing yardage for the game.
