Trace McSorley was a once-in-a-decade kind of quarterback for Penn State. Not often to you see a player with his skill set matched with his toughness on the field. James Franklin, and opposing coaches, always complimented his will to win.

Knowing that’s who he’s replacing this season, Sean Clifford has some huge shoes to fill under center in Happy Valley. The young quarterback with limited experience is charged with operating a high-powered offense and filling in for one of the all-time greats in Penn State history.

Not many of us know all that much about Clifford and what he brings to the table. Sure, we saw him throw a few passes last season and he played well in the spring game, but that’s hardly a large sample size. But former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer seems to be a big fan of the new QB.

“I know we recruited him, he comes from one of the best high schools in America, not just Ohio,” Meyer said. “I had [his high school coach] give me one to 10 on leadership, one to 10 on toughness, one to 10 competitiveness. Those are the three most important intangibles. And, what did he say? 10, 10, 10.”

Clifford will take his first start as Penn State’s quarterback on Saturday as the Nittany Lions host Idaho at Beaver Stadium. Below are Meyer’s full comments on Clifford, as posted by Big Ten Network:
