Illinois’ victory vs. Nebraska in Week 0 was a ratings hit. A reported 3.2 million viewers tuned in for Bret Bielema’s first victory at the helm of the Illini.

The national spotlight was on Illinois and they certainly delivered.

Bielema joined CBS Sports Network recently and discussed a variety of subjects, including the atmosphere in the locker room after the victory. Bielema is replacing Lovie Smith after Illinois posted a 2-6 record in 2020.

Illinois linebacker Calvin Hart was named Bednarik Award Player of the Week for his performance vs. Nebraska, but he’s since been ruled out for the season due to a knee injury.

Illinois is seeking its first winning season since 2011. Next up for Illinois is a home contest vs. UTSA on Sept. 4 (7:30 p.m. EST/BTN).

This is the first meeting between Illinois and UTSA. This is also UTSA’s first matchup against a B1G program.
