It was reported that Wisconsin may have found someone to fill its linebacker coaching vacancy on Monday. Those rumors have been confirmed as Mark D’Onofrio was officially welcomed as the new inside linebackers coach at Wisconsin on Friday.

D’Onofrio played at Penn State back in the day, and his last assistant coaching gig was at Houston from 2017-2018. He’ll be bringing his experience as a player and coach to Madison with him as he starts this new chapter in his career. The position become available after former LB coach Bill Sheridan resigned in March due to NCAA violations during his time at Air Force.

He released a statement about his new job in a press release via Wisconsin football:

“My family and I are thrilled to join this program, and I want to thank Coach Chryst for the opportunity,” D’Onofrio said. “As a coach, and as a fan of college football, I’ve admired the culture at Wisconsin for a long time. This is a place that fits who I am as a football coach. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to work with players of such high caliber and high character, and I’m energized to contribute to such a tremendous coaching staff.”
