Through three weeks, Northwestern’s defense wasn’t making history through its yards allowed or points allowed. But rather it was making history with its second-half performances.

The Wildcats had yet to allow a point in the second half of a game heading into Saturday’s game. That came to an end in one of the lamest ways possible. With Northwestern leading 24-10, Purdue kicked a 23-yard field to goal to end the Wildcats’ streak.

This was the first time since Pat Fitzgerald took over the Northwestern program in 2006 that the Wildcats had gone on a tear like this. Northwestern did this in part by grabbing six interceptions in second halves this season.

The lame, chip-shot field goal came as the Wildcats held serve near the goal-line as it appeared Purdue make break the streak via a touchdown.

There might be some disappointment amongst those on the Northwestern sideline for breaking that streak. But I’m sure they would gladly give up that streak ending as long as the Wildcats defeat the Boilermakers and improve to 4-0.
