Chip Kelly to become NFL's highest-paid coordinator, per report
Chip Kelly left Ohio State after just 1 season to run the Las Vegas Raiders offense with a deal that will make him the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL at $6 million per year, sources told Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
The Raiders had told the offensive coordinator candidates during their search that they were making a serious commitment with serious cash from their new owners. Kelly is now the beneficiary of that serious search with big-time money at stake, and he’ll be paid the most of any coordinator in the NFL just 1 season after helping the Buckeyes win the national championship.

Kelly is heading back to the NFL after leading an Ohio State offense that finished No. 1 in opponent-adjusted efficiency. After a stunning home loss to Michigan to end the regular season, the Buckeyes caught fire in the College Football Playoff, torching Tennessee and Oregon, holding off Texas in the semifinals and then taking down Notre Dame in the national title game behind Kelly’s high-octane offense.
Now, Kelly is taking his talents back to the NFL to join the Raiders, where he’ll be coaching under new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll.
The 61-year-old was previously the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers before going back to the college game to be the head coach at UCLA. After 6 years there, he went to Ohio State in 2024 and now is heading back to the pro game and will reportedly be paid very handsomely to do it.
