CJ Stroud is not quite ready to back down from a claim he recently made about Ohio State.

During fall camp, Stroud continues to prepare for the 2022 season with a mostly new group of receivers. Fortunately, he’ll still have Jaxon Smith-Njigba, TreVeyon Henderson and a talented offensive line in front of him.

When it comes to losing, it is tough to stomach, especially for a team as talented as the Buckeyes. Stroud went so far as to say Ohio State mostly loses “when we beat ourselves.”

During a media session Thursday, Stroud was asked about losses last season to Oregon and Michigan, the team’s only losses of the year. While Stroud offered up kudos and admitted those teams “beat us fair and square,” he maintained that the Buckeyes “beat ourselves at the same time.”

While the Buckeyes did commit 18 combined penalties in the two losses, Ohio State also gave up nearly 1,000 total yards in the losses. Both Oregon and Michigan averaged over 7 yards per carry in beating the Buckeyes with Stroud also hit time and time again by the Wolverines.

We’ll see how this comment looks over the course of 2022.
