College GameDay in Columbus: Ohio State's complete history with GameDay
ESPN’s College GameDay is returning to Columbus with the program announcing it will be in town for Ohio State’s top-10 matchup with Penn State!
Week 8 will be the second time this season that the Buckeyes are featured on the pre-game show this season, but the first instance came as a road team facing Notre Dame in South Bend. Columbus most recently hosted College GameDay for The Game last season, a 45-23 loss to Michigan.
Ohio State’s history on ESPN’s popular pre-game show is already length. In fact, the Buckeyes curently hold the all-time records for times hosting (22), overall appearances (57), and most wins (39-18 record). Alabama has the next most appearances and wins with 55 appearances and a 35-20 record.
The Buckeyes also lay claim to one statistical oddity for GameDay. Ohio State is the only program to play 3 consecutive College GameDay games in a single season. Though not in consecutive weeks, the Buckeyes played Notre Dame, Penn State and Iowa on College GameDay during the 1996 season.
During the 2022 season, Columbus hosted College GameDay twice while Ohio State appeared on the show 3 times (including the Peach Bowl). The Buckeyes went 1-2 in those appearances.
Columbus most recently hosted Penn State for GameDay during the 2019 season, a 28-17 win for the Buckeyes. Ohio State also beat Penn State 39-38 in a thriller during the 2017 season.
