Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud wanted to honor the life of Dwayne Haskins Jr. in a special way. In Saturday’s spring game, Stroud wore a No. 7 jersey with Haskins’ name on the back.

Both Stroud and Haskins have worn the jersey number while at Ohio State.

After Saturday’s spring game came to a conclusion, Stroud talked about the decision to honor Haskins by placing his name on the back of the jersey. He said Haskins was like a “big brother” to him.

“I just wanted to honor his last moment in The Shoe,” Stroud said.

“He changed the culture of quarterbacks here. He definitely left a legacy here.”

Ohio State honored Haskins in a number of ways during Saturday’s spring game. Players wore helmet decals and coaches wore pins with the “DH” initials. Those initials were also painted onto the turf at the 7-yard line.

At halftime, Ohio State played a video tribute to honor the former Ohio State star, as well. Wide receiver Kamryn Babb led a prayer following the tribute before the team went back to the locker room at halftime.
