Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields relieved an injured Andy Dalton in the first half of the Bears’ win over the Bengals in Week 2.

While Fields officially made his NFL debut last week, this was the first time he played as the No. 1 available quarterback in a close game. He played sparingly in Chicago’s 34-14 loss to the Rams in Week 1.

This week, Fields completed 6-of-13 passes for 60 yards and 1 interception. The Bears mostly leaned on their run game and defense en route to a 20-17 win over the Bengals.

Despite the lackluster stat line, Bears fans were excited to see Fields make his long-awaited debut with the team. The Bears traded up to take him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

However, Bears coach Matt Nagy has insisted on starting Dalton to begin the 2021 season and Fields continues to gain reps and learn the offense.

After the game, Fields told reporters, “I know I’m meant for this.” It’s unclear if he’ll start for the Bears in Week 3 or return to his backup role.
