J.T. Barrett isn’t directly involved in the rivalry game anymore, but he’s not willing to stand idly by while a Michigan recruit attempts to bash Ohio State.

Earlier this week, Michigan recruit Joey Velazquez made a pretty strong statement geared at the Buckeyes. While he didn’t make the comment directly, it was a close to guaranteeing four wins for the Wolverines as you get.

“There’s one game on my calendar that I have circled already because that game, to me, is kind of personal,” Velazquez told Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider. “I don’t think anybody is going to get any gold pants any time soon.”

Velazquez is a Columbus native, which is why the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry will be so personal to him when he arrives in Ann Arbor.

But his comments didn’t sit well with Buckeyes. That includes Barrett. And the former Ohio State quarterback took a shot at Velazquez.

“That boy bitter because Ohio State didn’t recruit him probably,” Barrett said on Twitter.

Velazquez was previously committed to Ohio State to play baseball. He later decommitted and signed with Michigan, where he’ll play both baseball and football.

He’s a 3-star defensive back in the 2019 recruiting class.

It was a bold statement for Velazquez to make considering Ohio State’s success in the series over the last two decades. But it’s good to see a kid with confidence in himself and his future school.

Barrett just wasn’t going to hear any of it.
