Jeremiah Smith is already living up to his No. 1 overall prospect rating in the 2024 class.

Smith wasted no time getting rid of his black stripe, shedding it back in March. This weekend, Smith made an eye-popping catch during practice.

With a cornerback draped all over him, Smith made a 1-handed grab in the corner of the end zone. The play garnered big reactions from multiple onlookers at Ohio State’s practice on Saturday.

Here’s video of the play, courtesy of Ohio State:

Smith will be looking to compete for a starting spot in the receiver room in Columbus as a true freshman. Marvin Harrison Jr. is off to the 2024 NFL Draft and Julian Fleming transferred to Penn State in the offseason, leaving plenty of available targets in Ohio State’s passing game. Tight end Cade Stover also declared for the draft.

However, star receiver Emeka Egbuka is set to return to Ohio State in 2024. Egbuka finished 3rd on the team with 515 yards receiving this past season.

It looks like Ohio State will be in good hands when it comes to the receiver position in 2024 if this play is any indication. Brian Hartline has produced wideouts like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Michael Thomas, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and most recently Harrison.

Smith has a ways to go to be talked about in the same vein as Harrison, Smith-Njigba, and others before him. Hartline stated that Smith still has a lot to learn in terms of football mechanics in a recent interview.

Carnell Tate is another notable receiver coming back in 2024 for Ohio State. Tate accounted for 264 receiving yards as a freshman this past year. Tate, Egbuka and Smith all figure to be big pieces in Ohio State’s passing game this upcoming season.

Kansas State transfer Will Howard is expected to start at quarterback for the Buckeyes in 2024. Howard has thrown for 5,786 yards and 48 touchdowns during his collegiate career.

Ohio State fans will get their first look at Smith and several other Ohio State newcomers next Saturday during the program’s spring game.
