If anyone thought Justin Fields would struggle to adjust to the speed of an NFL game, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
It was just a preseason contest, but Fields still dominated the Miami Dolphins on Saturday afternoon in his debut. He scored two touchdowns and completed 14-of-20 passes for 141 yards. He also rushed for 33 yards on five carries.
After the game, Fields indicated he was actually surprised at how the game seemed to slow down for him.
“It was actually kind of slow to me to be honest,” Fields told reporters when asked about the speed of an NFL game. “I think I was expecting it to be a little bit faster.”

Fields struggled a bit early on, but completed 12 of his final 14 pass attempts on the day. He was good enough to get a shoutout from LeBron James, too.
Fields is currently in a quarterback competition with veteran Andy Dalton, who started this game. Dalton is also expected to begin the season as the Bears’ starter, but more performances like this from Fields will put pressure on the Bears’ coaching staff to let him play early on.
Chicago’s next preseason game is on Aug. 21 vs. Buffalo.
