Ohio State has had a strong social media presence this week. The effort has been directed to fire up Buckeye fans across the country for Saturday night’s epic showdown against Penn State.

But one of Ohio State’s tweets didn’t go over so well. And the Buckeyes are hearing about it.

Wednesday morning, the Buckeyes sent out a tweet referencing Penn State’s “White Out.” The tet read “Silence the white noise,” with an image of receiver Austin Mack hushing the crowd.

As you can imagine, folks outside of Columbus took the opportunity to bash OSU for the use of the word “silence.” Most of that was directed at Urban Meyer.

Here’s how some people responded to that ironic tweet.

Yeah, that tweet backfired.

Ohio State’s tweet isn’t the only thing that’s gotten attention regarding Saturday night’s “White Out” in Happy Valley. Earlier this week, Penn State fans were selling a white T-shirt with the phrase “Urban Liar” on the front.

That shirt got the attention of Meyer’s wife, Shelley Meyer, who said it was one of the lowest things she’s ever seen from a fanbase.

The week of Ohio State-Penn State has already seen its share of drama this week. It’s going to make Saturday night even better.
