There is little time for new Ohio State coach Ryan Day to rest.

Not only are the Buckeyes preparing for the Rose Bowl, which will be the last game with Urban Meyer as OSU head coach before Day takes over, but recruiting season is coming fast.

Dec. 19 marks the start of the three-day Early Signing Period. So where does Ohio State stand in recruiting?

So far the transition from Meyer to Day does not seem to have slowed the Buckeyes much. Here is a look at where the Buckeyes stand just a bit more than a week before early signing.

The biggest names

Garrett Wilson, a 5-star recruit listed by 247 sports as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 16 overall recruit, committed to the Buckeyes in April and has stuck with them through their coaching transition. He is expected to sign with OSU during the Early Signing Period. So far OSU has three other top-100 recruits on its list of commits: 5-star center Harry Miller, 4-star safety Jordan Battle and 4-star guard Doug Nester. What’s interesting is that none of those four players are from Ohio, again proving that OSU is a national brand in recruiting.

Latest commits

Linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, a 4-star recruit from Cleveland, committed to OSU on Dec. 6, just days after Day was announced as the new coach. The St. Ignatius High product is rated as the 20th-best prospect at his position in 247’s rankings. Also, 3-star running back Marcus Crowley of Jacksonville, Fla., became a Buckeyes commit in November.

Position of power

OSU is loading up on offensive linemen. In addition to Miller and Nester, OSU has gotten a commit from offensive tackle Ryan Jacoby of Mentor, Ohio. Not only that but all three are top 300 prospects. Miller is rated at No. 31 overall, Nester at No. 92 and Jacoby is No. 295. Among the current starters, only Isaiah Prince and Malcolm Pridgeon are seniors, but teams can never have too many O-linemen.

Position of need

So far the Buckeyes have just one defensive line commit, Noah Potter. The 4-star prospect is a teammate to Jacoby at Mentor High. The Buckeyes are already losing All-America defensive end Nick Bosa to the NFL. Tackle Dre’Mont Jones has not decided on whether he’ll play in the Rose Bowl and probably is headed to the pros as well. Several other current D-line contributors are juniors.

Final analysis

Any coaching transition can shake up a recruiting class, especially now with the Early Signing Period coming so soon after the regular season. It’s tough to tell what the future ripples will be in the coming years with Day replacing Meyer, but for now OSU still appears to be headed for the best recruiting class in the Big Ten once again, and one of the 10 best in the nation.
