Zaid Hamdan, a former walk-on for the Buckeyes, has confirmed on Friday that he is leaving Ohio State.

A report surfaced Wednesday as National Signing Day was winding down that Hamdan had entered the portal. There are likely a number of reasons related to Hamdan’s decision, but it is certainly worth noting that star DL Haskell Garrett is returning for another year in 2021, along with the addition of some four-star recruits via the 2021 recruiting class.

“I would like to thank The Ohio State University for everything it has done over the past 3 years. I will forever cherish the memories, relationships, and people I have made/met here,” wrote Hamdan via Twitter Friday. He also indicated that he will have two-three years of eligibility remaining.

Hamdan joined the Buckeyes as a walk-on out of Mason, Ohio in 2018. He a B1G Distinguished Scholar in 2020 and an Academic All-B1G selection in 2019.
