Ohio State in contact with Big 12 transfer QB, per report
Ohio State could turn to the transfer portal to boost its quarterback room for 2024. Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors reported Saturday morning that OSU has “been in contact” with Kansas State transfer QB Will Howard.
The news comes as the Buckeyes’ QB situation looks uncertain after Devin Brown’s Cotton Bowl was cut short due to injury and Lincoln Kienholz struggled in the loss to Missouri. The Buckeyes will also have 5-star freshman signee Air Noland on the 2024 roster.
With the next college semester quickly approaching, Howard is one of the top QBs remaining in the portal. Back when the portal opened, Saturday Tradition’s Paul Harvey ranked Howard the No. 2 option for OSU, behind only Cam Ward of Washington State. Ward has also yet to make a commitment.
A multi-year starter, Howard threw for 5,786 yards with a 48-25 touchdown-to-interception ratio while completing 58.8% of his passes. Howard also logged 19 rushing touchdowns.
In 2023, Howard was 219-of-357 passing (61% complete) for career-highs of 2,643 yards and 24 touchdowns with 10 interceptions and 9 rushing scores.
While OSU had hoped Brown would have his QB1 coming out party in the Cotton Bowl, Ryan Day told reporters after the game that “everything” would be assessed, including a “hard look” at the QB room.
